The Mom of Celeb Kitty Nala Encourages Everyone to Adopt

It has been seven years that I’ve had Nala in my life. In November 2010, I came across her at the Los Angeles County Animal Care in Castaic, California. At the time, she was only 5 months old. She wasn’t the chubby, short-legged, diva cat she is now.

When I adopted Nala, she was a tiny, lonely kitten in a big cage all by herself. The shelter said her previous owner surrendered her because they had too many cats in their home and couldn’t take care of them all. I wasn’t planning on adopting an animal that day, but then I saw Nala. She was the last one of her siblings, and I knew I couldn’t just leave her there. When I picked Nala up for the first time, she licked my face, and I knew she was the one. I adopted her on the spot and took her home.

A happier life

Adopting Nala has brought so much love and happiness into to my life. Nala taught me how to love unconditionally. I honor and cherish every single day that we share together — we’re best buddies. I really can’t express how rewarding adopting a pet can be. The reason I believe adoption and rescue is important is because it not only saves pets from being euthanized in overcrowded shelters, it also gives animals a second chance to live in a happy home where they can thrive and live out their happiest days. Adopting an animal also opens a room at the shelter for another animal with nowhere else to go.

I encourage everyone to go to shelters and help the homeless animals — you might just find the love of your life.
