Lauren Conrad Shares Her Secrets to Self-Care During the Holidays
Lifestyle The fashion designer, philanthropist and New York Times best-selling author of "Celebrate" opens up about staying healthy and in the holiday spirit during the busiest season.
What is your favorite holiday tradition with friends and family?
Lauren Conrad: My family's big celebration is on Christmas Eve. Everyone comes over, my grandma makes her famous lasagna and we open all our presents.
Do you have any travel hacks for safe and stress-free travel during the holidays?
Plan ahead and stay organized. Try and think about any items that will need to be purchased for traveling and try and take care of them ahead of time. Planning ahead can also help you to avoid checking a bag, which can save you a lot of time and stress at the airport. I'm also a fan of putting together an itinerary when I'm traveling. Having all of your flight, hotel and car information in one place can be a lifesaver. I always try and carry a hard copy with me in case my phone dies.
What are some of your favorite holiday décor items?
For me it's all about the Christmas tree. I collect vintage ornaments and I'm so excited to cover my tree in them every year.
What are three hacks you use to de-stress and stay sane during the busy holiday season?
Try and get a head start on your holiday shopping. There's nothing worse than running around last-minute, trying to check off everyone on your list. Nowadays I try and do most of my shopping online. I avoid a mall at all costs. It's okay to RSVP no. You don't have to accept every invitation you receive. The holiday season is full of events and sometimes trying to attend every one of them can become overwhelming.

Enjoy the little things. Sometimes the little joys of the holiday season get lost in all the noise. Whether it's enjoying a cup of eggnog or going ice-skating with friends.
What are steps you take to maintain your health during this time of the year?
I don't have any secret tricks here. I just try and get enough sleep, wash my hands often and get my flu shot. Also, while it's okay to indulge a little during the holiday season, do your best to make sure you are still getting some proper meals.
On that note, what’s one healthy recipe you will be making in 2017?
Since I will be recovering from the holiday season, I'll be trying to make lots of recipes that are light, but still filling. During colder months I like to pull out my crockpot. I'm currently trying out different vegetable soup recipes. Hopefully by the New Year I will have found a winner.
What is your favorite playlist for holiday or New Year’s parties?
The one my husband makes. Elvis' Christmas album is his go-to this time of year, but he makes a great playlist anytime we entertain.
