Top 5 Kitchen Design Trends for 2016
Lifestyle Remodeling is back in a big way. According to the Home Improvement Research Institute, kitchen renovations are a top priority for homeowners nationally.
1. Now serving: Family time
Consumers want kitchens that are the nucleus of a larger first floor “great room” concept where everyone does what they want in the same space.
2. The details
“Flat cabinet panels are in,” says Janel Campbell, Neil Kelly design consultant. “Metal is also making the rounds in the home for 2015, such as copper pendant lighting and cast bronze sinks.”
3. Entertaining for a crowd
“This past year we have noticed the desire of more than just a kitchen to cook in,” says H. Dale Contant, president of Atlanta Design & Build. “For years, the interior walls have been removed to open the kitchen to the rest of the home, but now adjacent rooms are being incorporated to have a much larger space for entertaining.”
4. Vibrant colors
From pairing classic with contemporary styles to infusing touches of color into the timeless combination of black and white, designers agree that vibrant colors will remain a focal point.
5. Cool contrasting
Color is often used to highlight the base of island or peninsula cabinets, colored stone in the countertop, different blends of cabinetry wood and in the tiles of the backsplash. “We’re seeing light blues and greens becoming increasing popular,” says Neil Kelly design consultant Karen Richmond.
