Athlete, entrepreneur, advocate, and boxing royalty — if anyone knows the importance of nutritious meals it’s Laila Ali. In a Q&A, she explains how to get the most out of breakfast.
Do you have any tips for making the time for breakfast even with a busy schedule?
For many years now, I have been having a shake or smoothie for breakfast because it’s quick and easy. I add protein powder, frozen berries, frozen spinach, avocado, almond milk, and ice. Another good way to make time for breakfast is to meal prep in advance. There are tasty breakfast recipes in my cookbook Food For Life that can be made ahead of time.
How have you been able to keep breakfast engaging for your family throughout the year?
I like to offer my children a variety to choose from for breakfast. I always keep foods they like on hand, but also introduce new choices they must try. Recently, I bought attractive serving dishes and made them yogurt parfaits. I layered vanilla Greek yogurt, berries, and granola with a drizzle of honey. The presentation helped seal the deal!
What benefits have you noticed from eating breakfast regularly?
Breakfast has always been one of my most nutritious meals of the day. The food we put in your bodies is what fuels our energy and brain function. When I have breakfast, I feel balanced and ready to conquer all of my tasks for a productive day.
How do you make sure to incorporate flavor into your breakfast?

I make sure to add veggies, healthy fats and protein in every meal.
