How to Win Big in Vegas: 5 Gambling Tips

Losing in Vegas is still better than just about anything you’d be doing at home, but your trip will be even sweeter with some extra spending cash in your pocket. Of course, we can’t guarantee you’ll win, but we can guarantee you’ll improve your changes if you follow these simple tips.

Slots

We like pulling the little lever, too, but slots have the worst odds in Vegas. They do offer a great way to get your adrenaline rush without investing a lot, though, so if you’re going to play them at least play them well.

  1. The higher your bet the better your chances of winning. Always bet the maximum amount.
  2. The luckiest machines tend not to be at the front of the house, so look for a machine that’s farther from the main entrance and check how much it has paid out.
  3. If the machine isn’t winning, change. And casinos rarely put two “losing” machines next to each other so you may not need to go far to increase your odds.
  4. Ask a cocktail server for a lead. The staff often knows the best machines to play, just be sure to tip.

Blackjack

The house only has a .5% advantage if you follow some basic rules.

  1. Since the game requires skill as well as luck, practice before you go. We recommend Hit or Stand to test out strategies.
  2. Always split aces and eights.

Craps

Beginners are often too nervous to hit the Craps table, but it’s one of the most fun games to play. Especially if you win.

  1. Bet “Pass or Don’t Pass” for the best odds.
  2. Keep your eye on the player with the most chips and do what he or she does. You can bet smaller amounts but emulate the strategies.
  3. Easier said than done, but learn to walk away and never bet more than you can afford to lose.
  4. Don’t drink too much while you play. There’s a reason why the casino wants to fill you with free booze. You’re more likely to place higher bets, play for longer and make riskier decisions.

P.S.: We skipped poker on purpose. It requires the most skill to play so pass on it unless you’re experienced.
