Knight the Pit’s owner, Rina Vargas, shares insight into Knight’s wellness routine and discusses dismantling the stigma that pit bulls face.
What’s your approach to keeping Knight looking and feeling his best?
Knight’s routine is all about consistent care and small daily habits. I bathe him 1-2 times a month and use grooming wipes in between to keep his coat fresh and clean. Coconut oil helps keep his skin healthy and shiny, and I brush his teeth every night.
Do you use supplements as part of Knight’s wellness routine?
Yes! Knight gets a daily multivitamin and mushroom powder to support his immune system and overall health, along with a dental powder to keep his teeth clean and breath fresh. I like keeping his routine simple but consistent.
What’s your take on nutrition and its connection to mood and mental health for dogs?
I believe what dogs eat affects how they feel both physically and emotionally. When Knight eats fresh, balanced meals with real ingredients, he’s calmer, more focused, and just overall happier. Good nutrition fuels his energy, supports his brain, and even helps with his behavior.

How do activities like play, training, or exercise help reduce stress for dogs?
For Knight, movement and mental stimulation are everything. Playtime, training, and daily walks help release built-up energy and keep him balanced. When he’s working his brain or burning off energy through play, he’s more relaxed and confident.
What do you wish more people understood about pit bulls, and how can we shift the narrative from the stigma that the breed faces?
I wish more people saw pit bulls for who they truly are. They’re loyal, affectionate, and incredibly intelligent dogs with so much love to give. The stigma comes from misinformation, not the dogs themselves. By sharing positive stories, responsible ownership, and everyday moments of kindness, we can help people see their true nature. The more the world meets pit bulls like Knight, the harder it becomes to believe the stereotypes.
